defrydrychowski.wordpress.com -- ephemera

(a microblog: notes, queries, and whatnot)

With very few exceptions, including the odd AI rabbit-hole runs, I use computers to write/edit, read books, read the Times, and listen to broadcasts from churches and concert halls and the BBC.

Possibly excpting the churches and concert halls, all of these activities were possible beforehand, though not necessarily in peripatetic and difficult times.

Perhaps the chief virtue of the machine is in the reproduction and dissemination.  If you can identify the good things in the digital manifold, they're much easier to access.  But absent the icons of things that were known to be worthwhile beforehand, the encounter with the usual content (social media scrolling, etc.) doesn't get you much.  One doesn't scroll FB in search of worthwhile bits of knowledge.
