(a microblog: notes, queries, and whatnot)

Eve of the Orthodox Transfiguration.  Apparently serves in folk culture as the first shift to autumn.  The sky changes three times, traditionally people stop swimming in lakes and rivers.  Divination at midnight, of course. Holidays are always a good time to try to see things another way.  More empirically: Lammastide -- first loaf, and the harvest to run through the next month.  (Lammastide, astronomically speaking, was apparently precisely eleven days ago, so things seem to be right on course.)
