I might be wrong about this, but it certainly has seemed at times that the aversion to the Latin church among the Orthodox is more of popular and populist movement, with the structures of power taking a much more ecumenical view than the everyday person, while precisely the opposite obtains in the West, with a genuine interest in the Orthodox worhip by the average person, but a strong political mistrust fomented towards these nations by those wandering the corridors of power.
