(a microblog: notes, queries, and whatnot)

New humble quarters surprisingly noisy: construction, maintenance, vacationers.  The cult of quiet civilization isn't strong here -- the relaxation seems more garrulous, perhaps associating quiet civilization with other, enemy cultures.  Vacationers with engines revving, and the workers of the ski resort working hard, industrious in off-season upkeep.  Both of which are rational things for humans to be doing.  In fairness, windows have been kept wide open given the chemical smell that seemed to be coming from the drains and surfaces.  Mostly dissipated now, though it reappears from time to time, which would favor the drain hypothesis.  And be sufficient reason for keeping the windows open.

I came here for the proximate mountains, and they're undeniably proximate.  The rest can be muddled through, especially on this budget. The present task is mental focus.  Which has has different footpaths to it, compared to reading and thinking while attempting to survive the unsurvivable in the city.  One has to bring the urgency to the task, rather than there being sufficient surplus urgency from the struggle to survive the day.

Onward.
